If you want to use a shower kit to build a brand new shower, you may want to know a couple of things first. Once I decided that I needed a new shower in place of my old one, I purchased a shower kit because I figured that it would be cheaper to do it myself than to have to pay a professional a lot of money to do it for me. Shower kits seem easy enough and they do make things relatively simple but there are some tips you should be aware of beforehand. Based on my experience, here are some pointers:
-Find shower kits that have the most amount of fixtures included in the package: When you have all of the materials that you need to build a good looking shower, it’s always a good thing. It’s always better to have too much than to have too little.
-You will most likely need your own tools: Sometimes they come with the shower kits but a lot of times, the more heavy duty tools such as a PVC pipe do not come in the boxes. You will need a primer, Philips screwdriver, scissors to cut tubing, silicon caulk and a half inch PVC pipe. Any additional tools will probably be mentioned in the instructions.
-Read the manual carefully: Because I thought that I knew everything and therefore did not need to read the instructions in detail, I ended up improperly caulking the edges. They are professionals for a reason. They know what they’re talking about so if you don’t want to have to re-do your project, it would benefit you to follow their lead.
-Check your plumbing: It may seem like the most obvious thing to consider but you’d be surprised at how many people forget. Make certain that you can run the plumbing where you want your shower to be and that the drain hole matches up properly.
Finally, before you put the finishing touches on your new shower, check that everything works. It would be a shame if you go through all that trouble and find out that your new shower doors doesn’t even open correctly.
